Peter E. Loucks

Peter grew up in Chesley. He attended Queen’s University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics in 1975. Peter attended law school at Dalhousie University, graduating in 1978. While at law school, Peter was the recipient of Angus L. MacDonald Prize for academic excellence and as the student with the highest mark in property law, he was also the recipient of the Central Eastern Trust Company award.

After being called to the bar in 1980, Peter returned to Chesley and worked at Loucks & Garcia. Peter went into partnership with his father, George C. Loucks in 1987, and the firm became Loucks & Loucks.

Peter’s law practice focuses on real estate, corporate and commercial matters, civil litigation, and wills and estates administration, including:

  • corporate and commercial law, such incorporations, and the purchase and sale of businesses;
  • real estate transactions, including residential, cottage, commercial, industrial and agricultural properties;
  • mortgages, including enforcement by power of sale and foreclosure proceedings;
  • wills, powers of attorney, trusts, estate administration, and succession planning, including farm succession planning;
  • civil litigation, including issues involving possessory title and right-of-way claims. Peter has appeared before Superior Court of Justice and Ontario Court of Appeal, as well as administrative tribunals, such as the Ontario Land Tribunal and former Ontario Municipal Board on zoning matters.

Peter previously practiced in the area of family law, and formerly acted as a prosecutor for the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority. He is a Council Member of the Ontario Bar Association, a member of the Bruce County Law Association, Grey County Law Association, and the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association.

Outside of law, Peter enjoys volunteering in his community, including:

  • on the Board of Directors with the Bluewater Education Foundation and their Outdoor Education Centre whose facilities in Oliphant provide outdoor education to school children, amongst other conservation and education endeavours;
  • with the Canadian Agricultural Farm Advisor Group;
  • Chairman of the former Chesley and District Hospital, and its successor South Bruce Grey Health Services during which time he was a cross-board member representative to the Hanover and District Hospital Board as well as the former Owen Sound Hospital Board; and,
  • a former President of the Kinsmen Club of Chesley.

Peter and his wife, Ruth, live in Chesley. They have five children and one grandchild. They enjoy travelling, and visiting their three children who live abroad in London, U.K., rural Australia, and Maryland, U.S.A.
